Time Laps of Road

2020 is promising to be an exciting year for new cars hitting the Australian market. Whether you’re looking for a small car, an SUV, or a dual-cab, there will be something for everyone.

A look back

With 2019 seeing a dip in car sales, Australia still recorded a total of 1,062,867 new vehicles sold. Topping the list once again was the Toyota Hilux with 47,649 sales, followed closely by the Ford Ranger with 40,069. The Hilux and Ranger have held the top two spots for a number of years now, with the Toyota Corolla taking out 3rd spot in 2019. If 2020 is to follow the trend of previous years, you can expect to see these three models dominate the market once again.

New models to get excited about

2020 will see the release of several new models in the Australian market. No matter your preference of make or model, the choices of new SUVs, utes, hatchbacks, sedans, sports cars, 4x4s, and electric cars are growing. Highlights include the Ford Escape, Kia Carnival, Subaru XV and Forester, Volkswagen T-Roc, Honda CRV, Mazda 2, and many others.

Electric cars

While the Australian Electric Vehicle market is somewhat lacking compared to other countries, sales have seen a massive uptick in the past few years. While 2019 saw the introduction of the Hyundai Kona Electric, the Hyundai Ioniq, the Tesla Model 3, and the Nissan Leaf, 2020 will see eight new models hit the market. This year, expect to see models from Audi, Porsche, Volvo and Polestar, Mercedes-Benz, MG, Mini, and local startup EV Automotive in showrooms across the country.
